Olive Oil for Dogs

Many people have heard about all of the positive benefits of olive oil. Did you know that olive oil is also good for your dog?

In order for a dog to receive all of the benefits of olive oil, they will need to eat ½ to 1 tablespoon of it every day. Your dog is likely to enjoy the taste of olive oil, but not on its own. It is better to mix it with their wet food or drizzle it over their kibble. It will give their food a pleasant, mild flavor that they will like.

Due to the monounsatured fats in olive oil, ingesting it breaks down the fat inside of fat cells and encourages weight loss. This is especially helpful for helping dogs that have weight issues.

Olive oil helps get rid of belly fat as it reduces insulin sensitivity. This helps to ward off diabetes. Olive oil promotes overall health, as well. As it contains oleic acid, it helps to prevent cardiovascular disease and cancer, which is one of the largest causes of death in dogs.

Olive Oil also boosts the immune system. This is because it contains many antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamin E, chlorophyll and carotenoids. This helps to ward off disease and illnesses. Dogs sometimes have a tendency to get sick from the seasons changing, so especially when it is time for this, it is a good idea to give your dog olive oil.

Olive oil also promotes longer life. It offers free radical cell oxidation that will do a good job of extending the life of your pet. It is also good for their brain. It is a good fat, similar to those found in fish. It can help increase brain productivity and make your dog more intelligent and focused. This is especially important for senior dogs. If you give it to puppies that are still training, it may help them to be more focused and hold their attention.

When you give your dog olive oil on a daily basis, it can help increase their blood flow and improve circulation. It can also help the respiratory system in dogs that have trouble breathing. Olive oil helps to reduce the symptoms of asthma in people and in dogs.

Ingesting a bit of olive oil each day can help to moisturize the dog’s skin from the inside. It helps to reduce skin flakiness, as it contains omega-3 fatty acids which help to improve the quality of the skin.

Now that we have talked about its internal applications, let’s take a look at what else it can do for a dog’s skin and coat. To use olive oil as a topical treatment, prepare a solution of 5 to 10 tablespoons of olive oil diluted in water. You can massage this into the dog’s skin once a day. This will help a dog who has a problem with dry skin. You may also decide to buy products that have olive oil extracts in them, such as natural creams and dog shampoos.
