Neutral or Twisted Wire

The twisted wire is used to cancel or create a pathway from your dog fence transmitter to your main loop. It can also be used to create extension from one point in your main electric dog fence loop to an auxiliary loop in another part of your yard. The main purpose for using twisted wire will be to connect your dog fence control box to your main loop. Twisted or neutral wire is simply two wires that are twisted together, having the wires right next to each other cancels the dog fence signal creating a void in the fence so the dog can walk across without penalty. The dogs collar will not activate when he crosses the twisted wire, but will activate at the main loop.

You can easily make your own twisted wire by hand twisting the cable from point A to point B spacing the twists 1-2 inches a part for maximum cancellation. Determine how man feet of wire you need to go from your dog fence transmitter to your main loop unspool two lengths of wire the predetermined distance tie to parallel wires to a post or shovel attach the two lengths of wire to a drill and slowly twist with the drill bit.

We also sell pre-twisted wire.  This wire is easier to use and the two wires are enclosed in a coating making it much easier to work with.

Once your transmitter is mounted and your boundary loop is run and ready to test, it will look similar to this diagram.  While the fence will function, your dog cannot cross through the section labeled,  "Area needing twisted wire"

Make sure you have enough twisted wire to connect to your dog fence control box to both ends of your main loop and connect both ends of the twisted wire to the main loop.

Cut the boundary wire where it becomes the boundary loop, as shown. If you have pre-twisted you would replace this section, splice the pre-twisted wire where you made the cuts and connect to the transmitter.

Twist the two wires together. One twist per inch is the recommend number. A few more is better than a few less. The best method to create the twist in the wires is to use an electric drill and let the drill do the work for you.

Splice the twisted wire into the boundary wire and re-connect the twisted wire to the transmitter in the house/garage.

Don’t be confused with the general workings of the twisted or neutral wire.

It can only be used for two applications. You cannot use twisted wire to cancel out a random section of wire in your main fence perimeter. The general rule of a complete circuit from the origination point back to the orgination point still applies.

    1. Electric Dog Fence Transmitter to the main loop- You can run as much twisted wire from your main dog fence transmitter to your main dog fence loop. The twisted wire will be neutral from the transmitter to the main loop and will not activate your dogs dog fence collar.

    2. Auxiliary loops- You can run twisted wire from the main loop to an area within the interior section of the main loop such as flower beds, ponds, outbuildings, gardens trees or any other general area you want to keep your dog away from.
