It all started over 9 years ago when I received my first pet as a birthday gift from my Husband. I became a proud pet parent of a cute Jack Russell Terrier puppy named Gator. In true puppy fashion, Gator was slightly mischievous, had more energy than I could ever imagine and loved to run and play.

We lived on a busy road. Every time I took Gator outside, he was on a leash or a tie out. The leash was an absolute necessity, and was not fun for either of us. Once we had Gator for a few weeks, we purchased a long tie out for our backyard.

The tie out gave Gator some freedom; however his tie was constantly getting wrapped around trees and shrubs in our backyard. We had to look at other options. The first thought we had was a traditional fence. We secured a few quotes and were shocked at how expensive a fence was.

My Husband was doing some research online, and saw several websites advertising electric dog fences. The concept seemed ideal for us. The electric fences were reasonably priced, seemed easy to install, and allowed us not to lose our view of the open space adjacent to our yard.

I had very little knowledge of this type of fence. At an appointment with our veterinarian, I brought up the electric dog fence as an option for Gator. She was quick to dismiss the idea, especially for our boisterous Jack Russell. She strongly felt that he would be difficult, if not impossible to contain in an electric fence.

I remember leaving that appointment feeling discouraged, but I still didn’t take the option of the table. After more research, we decided to purchase an electric fence and install it in our yard. The installation process was relatively easy. My Husband was able to complete the installation on a Saturday afternoon.

We began training Gator that day. It took around two weeks for him to fully understand the electric fence. We worked with him on understanding his boundaries, and of course how to handle distractions (a must for my crazy dog).

After a few months of having an electric fence, I couldn’t imagine having a dog without it. Gator could run, chase, climb trees and enjoy our backyard. His overall behavior improved dramatically. He was happy and we were happy as well. The electric dog fence changed our lives.

We moved to a new house several years later. The first home improvement project we did was installing an electric dog fence. The fence proved to be worth its weight in gold, when my Husband brought our new labradoodle puppy home. Reagan brought a whole new level of puppyhood to our lives.

I had never seen a dog with so much energy! He is a wonderful dog, with the ability to leave a wide path of destruction in his wake. I remember one afternoon hearing my neighbors laughing hysterically in my yard. Imagine my shock when I went outside and saw my dog digging up my front flowerbeds! He was running in circles carrying a small shrub in his mouth!

After causing more destruction, we knew that we had to do something to keep Reagan out of our flowerbeds. Our electric dog fence came to the rescue (once again)!

My Husband was able to wire off the flowerbeds separate from our main perimeter electric fence. Both dogs had the freedom that they needed, and the flowerbeds were safe from Reagan. It was a win for everyone.

Now both Reagan and Gator enjoy hopping in and out of their electric fenced yard via the dog door my husband installed in our back door. I cannot imagine life without our dogs, and their electric dog fence. It truly the best decision we made. I would urge anyone who is considering the electric dog fence to purchase it. You will not be disappointed.
